Some children struggle to understand personal space. They might also find it hard at this stage to read their friend’s body language when they get too close. They may even be over-familiar with other adults. Not only is this an important social boundary for children to learn, it will also help to keep them healthy. This story aims to give children a practical way of understanding appropriate social distance between themselves and their friends. They start with using a real hula hoop to understand the distance, thereafter they can be taught to hold their arms at a 90 degree angle to measure the distance. With practice, this “gap” should become a healthy habit.
